Doctor and nurse in cancer fraud

A physician and his nurse married woman have got been establish guilty of a 731,000 Euroes fraud after falsely claiming she had breast cancer.

Dr Emad Massoud, 52, and married woman Gehan, 45, from Ratoath, County Meath had coverage screen for serious illnesses.

They received the money from coverage companies in 2002 after successfully claiming Mrs Massoud had breast cancer.

Gardai began an probe after an coverage company received a tip-off by telephone and missive about the couple.

During the trial at Irish Capital Circuit Criminal Court, lawyers for the couple admitted that a lumpectomy used to provide tissue to diagnose malignant neoplastic disease was carried out by Dr Massoud, and not by another operating surgeon - who was a friend of the couple - as declared on the coverage claim forms.

The tribunal also heard that Mrs Massoud's female parent in Arab Republic Of Egypt had breast malignant neoplastic disease at the time.

Bigger than scars

Experts gave grounds that the size of the breast sample was much larger than cicatrixes on Mrs Massoud's breast, and that the sample's deoxyribonucleic acid did not fit hers.

An expert also told the tribunal that the sample had a "99.53% opportunity of fatherhood between the tissue giver and the woman".

The tribunal also heard grounds from a physician friend of the couple of seeing a glass pathology jar with a human tissue while visiting their house, a claim Dr Massoud denied in court.

The couple were convicted by jury after three hours' deliberation.

Dr Massoud, who is originally from Egypt, was remanded in custody, while his married woman was remanded on continuing bail bond before sentencing next month.
