Monty plans UK lung cancer centre

Champion golf player Colin Montgomerie have told how his mother's decease from malignant neoplastic disease inspired him to make a Centre in her memory.

The Elizabeth Ii Montgomerie Centre will be the UK's lone Centre of excellence for lung malignant neoplastic disease - and the lone installation of its sort in Europe.

Monty was in Glasgow, where the Centre will be based, to establish the £5.2m fundraising appeal.

He said his female parent had died because the malignant neoplastic disease was not caught early enough.

The Centre is a joint venture with the Roy Palace Lung Cancer Foundation.

Named after Montgomerie's mother, who died from the disease in 1991, the Centre will supply information and will back up patients and carers.

It will also offer preparation for lung malignant neoplastic disease specialists, a UK-wide advice line for people and their carers, and house research into all facets of patient care.

Although based in Glasgow, the Centre will provide for sufferers, carers and wellness people from across the UK.

The golf player said: "I'm very excited about being able to salvage lives, which my female parent wasn't able to do.

"Nowadays, with progresses in research, if diseases are caught early enough, of course, you have got more than of a chance.

"Unfortunately with my female parent that wasn't the case. It can be stopped.

"We're trying to raise £5.2m initially and that doesn't just springtime up.

"It is a large inquire but I have got championed this cause with personal monies as well."

Several places are being considered for the undertaking and the purpose is to begin renovating a edifice next year.
